Once home I observed them a little longer and this is what I noticed. I totally took the wrong finch out last night!! I am so glad I moved them around again later on. Mom Bob must have been freaking out when dad was hauled away by that jackass who calls herself a decent captor. Dad Bob must have been sick with worry over the thought of evil Bob hurting his little one while he couldn't even defend him or his woman. This was a legit fear as I watched the nasty guy go over to the little one at one point, pick him up by his wing and shake him about like a rabid dog death shakes his prey while the parents tried to stop him. This happened once more with the tiny guy snatched up by his chest and flung about and I knew I had to think fast or he was going to be screwed. The plan snapped into action. Since the Bob's are extremely hard to tell apart while weilding a net, I had M help me with the whole mess. While he kept his eye on the right finch he told me where it was and I swung the net. It sounds a lot easier than it is. It amounted in three lose finches, dogs trying to catch them and me dashing about all pell mell with net in hand. The real question is why I don't simply put the dogs away, now isn't it? I put the nasty Bob in with the new female (Bob) and I took Bob the piebald and put him back in the dwelling like before. The female didn't like him anyway and lets face it, Mr. Nasty Pants just wants himself a bitch. Problem solved! TEAM JOY!! Nasty and new female are enjoying themselves very much too! YAY!!
Here are some pictures of the newest member. I decided to name him/her Bob. These first photos could be a lot better but they have the cutness factor down...
And of course mother and father are always around to keep baby safe...
And then there's the fact that Bob can't stay away and is very interested (in a very non violent kind of way) in the new one. He sort of hangs out and checks out the scene. It's almost like he's trying to figure out where this new bird came from. He reports back to Malcolm. It's kind of funny...
Oh man... cuteness alert...
